NHS Open for Pet Adoptions on New Year’s Day
On Friday, January 1, Nevada Humane Society will be open for adoptions from 11am to 5pm. In celebration of the new year, the first people who adopt a pet in 2010 will receive special prizes and recognition on our website, both for the first dog adoption and first cat adoption. Come by and enjoy a glass of sparkling apple cider and toast to the new year.
Last year, Nevada Humane Society was open on New Year’s Day for the first time ever and 49 pets found loving homes that day in just 6 hours! Help us spread the word to find loving homes for these deserving orphaned pets in the shelter.

Unfortunately this is a US shelter. Does anyone know of any Australian ones that open on New Years Day?
Lort Smith (Melbourne) is open every day of the year.
The Animal Welfare League in Qld is open on New Years Day, normal trading hours from 10am until 5pm. Although our rehoming figures weren’t as high as Nevada Humane Society (49 pets is an outstanding effort in a 6 hour period and definitely lays that challenge for us next year!!), we still managed to find homes for 10 animals on New Years Day.
I am proudly affiliated with the No Kill Shelter owned and run by Sue Whelan and her staunch volunteers in Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills. I cannot say for sure that they were open on New Year’s Day but just wanted to put in a word for the wonderful work they do year in, year out. I was horrified to read of the practices of the LDH through a friend’s FB page – best of luck to all of you involved there for the success of continued activism – it really is true about what they say about all it takes for evil to flourish – we proved it here in SA and I will encourage all our supporters to sign up for your cause.

I am happy to hear of the organisations you are associated with, congratulations – We are very disturbed in Victoria by the practices of the Lost Dogs Home & hopefully will be able to bring about some kind of change there, as Mike says The Lort Smith is open 365 days a year – incredible, I wonder why The Lost Dogs Home could not also be. I intend to be actively involved in the campaign to question & eventually reform The Lost Dogs Home.
